For dedicated collectors of fine German porcelain, few pursuits are as thrilling—or as rewarding—as assembling a complete thematic ensemble. 👼🎻 While individual figurines hold immense charm on their own, bringing together an entire orchestra creates a showstopping holiday and year-round exhibition. Today at Hummels And More, we are exploring one of the most sought-after modern sets on the secondary estate market: the 19-piece Goebel M.I. Hummel Angel Symphony Collection (Series 2096).
The Celestial Orchestra: Rödental Craftsmanship & Artistry 🎨🎶
Sculpted at the W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik studios in Rödental, Bavaria, between the late 1990s and mid-2000s (spanning the TMK-8 "Missing Bee" era), the Angel Symphony represents a complete 19-piece celestial orchestra. Brought to life by Chief Master Sculptor Helmut Fischer and Master Sculptor Marion Huschka, each petite 3.5-inch to 4.25-inch seraph is modeled playing a distinct classical or folk instrument.
When you examine a piece from Series 2096 up close, the precision of the Rödental artisans is immediately apparent. Notice the delicate, hand-painted brushstrokes along the star-spangled hems of the flowing robes, the feathered texture of the wings, and the metallic brass and wood-toned detailing of each miniature instrument. The soft Bavarian color palettes—combining celestial blues, warm apricots, sage greens, and dusty roses beneath Goebel’s signature velvety satin-matte glaze—harmonize effortlessly in a cabinet alongside the warm alpine maple wood grain of Italian ANRI Nativity carvings, the fiery oxblood reduction glazes of Royal Doulton Flambé, and the high-gloss pastels of Spanish Lladró.
