For those new to this specific series, these pieces represent a brilliant cross-section of literary history and fine porcelain artistry. Kate Greenaway was one of the most influential children's book illustrators of the 19th century. Her watercolor paintings of children in idyllic, Victorian-era clothing completely shaped the aesthetic of the time.
Decades later, the master craftsmen at Royal Doulton undertook the monumental task of bringing her two-dimensional watercolor illustrations to life in three-dimensional porcelain. The resulting 18 figurines are renowned for their delicate, sweeping dresses, intricate bonnets, and the soft, nostalgic innocence that perfectly captures Greenaway's original vision.
