A Cheerful 19th Century Host
Bring a magnificent touch of historic character and English craftsmanship to your display with this highly sought-after Royal Doulton large character jug, "Simon The Cellarer" (Model D5504)! Hand-crafted in England, officially issued between 1935 and 1960, and brilliantly co-designed by the legendary Charles Noke and Harry Fenton, this wonderfully expressive vintage collectible captures a very popular 16th-century figure. It features the rugged, incredibly cheerful face of Simon, who famously kept a vast amount of wine and ale in his cellar and was never short of friends! He wears a deep burgundy head covering and a ruffled white collar with his name sculpted into the back. The true highlight of this design is the incredibly clever handle, beautifully formed by a large ring of heavy iron keys used to unlock his famous cellar! 🍷🗝️🍻✨
Exquisite Craftsmanship & Quality: Measuring an impressive 6-1/2" tall by 7-1/2" wide, this large jug is a breathtaking showcase of Royal Doulton's famed dedication to character craftsmanship. The meticulous hand-painted brushstrokes highlighting his lifelike, weathered facial features and thick grey hair, the expertly sculpted, tactile texture of the iron keys and the ruffled collar, and the remarkably shiny, signature glossy fired finish highlight incredible English porcelain artistry! As seen in the pictures, it is in EXCELLENT condition with absolutely no chips, cracks, or professional repairs. ✨ Proudly display this cheerful host securely resting on a dark walnut home bar shelf alongside other famous faces, or as a striking conversation piece on a rustic dining room buffet!
